Commissioned Work

This was a 5-Minute promotional video that I scored for Planned Parenthood Northern California. It focused on the history of Planned Parenthood and how it has always been a champion for women's rights and women's health. My score touched on emotions like sadness and the despair that some feel when confronted with difficult choices in life, and then transitioned to emotions of hopefulness and boldness that define the comprehensive programs offered by PPNorCal.

Marlboro College - Beautiful Minds Challenge 2016

This was a short promotional video I scored for Marlboro College's Beautiful Minds Challenge. The Challenge is a competition to come up with innovative and unique "change" ideas for your community and submit them. The winner receives a full tuition scholarship to Marlboro colleges and other prizes are awarded to runner-up submissions. The tone of the music I chose was one of gears turning and ideas coming to life.

Grave of the fireflies

This was a rescoring of a scene from Studio Ghibli's 1988 film Grave of the Fireflies. The scene depicts a boy named Seita saving his younger sister, Setsuko, from the bombing of the port city of Kobe, Japan, during the final days of World War II. The carnage and destruction in this scene is somewhat graphic and sad. I tried to capture the mayhem of the bombing followed by an eerie bleakness as we see bodies under burning rubble and mothers trying to protect their children from the deadly smoke.

From the ashes - fantasia 2000

This was a re-imagining I did of the "Firebird" scene from Fantasia 2000, originally scored by Igor Stravinsky. I wanted to capture a sense of rebirth and life burgeoning back into being. I got a chance to conduct this piece with the Ruse, Philharmonic in Ruse, Bulgaria and you can see that video on my Conducting page. I hope you enjoy my take on this timeless story.

This is a clip of CGI video footage of the launch and landing of the Mars "Curiosity" rover. I added original score to the video to demo my skills in scoring "spacey" sounding music/sci-fi and I submitted it  for consideration to JPL (Jet Propulsion Laboratory) and their artistic department.

This is a bit of music I wrote to a scene from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1. The scene had no music in the actual released film so I thought it would pose an interesting challenge. Clearly the directed decided to omit music underneath this narration, but I thought a soundtrack could definitely exist to accompany Hermoine's story. Enjoy!

dragon nest - Rescored video gameplay loops

These are three loops I wrote to accompany the game "Dragon Nest." I did this for a graduate school course in game scoring and they are obviously not the original music loops for the game, but I still think the they are fun and work well in the game. Take a look & listen!

This is a scene from a comedy I co-composed the score to while studying for my masters degree at the Seattle Film Institute. In this climactic scene of the film our two hapless brothers, Jerry and Bud are in a euphoric place when they are realize an old junky vase in their now-deceased father's garage is expected to be worth $100,000 at auction. But. . . before the end they will find a way to end their sandy beach disney world dreams in a shattering display of failure. This film was written and directed by Travis Erdmann.
